How to cite an attorney general opinion

Cite a state attorney general opinion in the form the office itself uses: a volume and page in a state reporter such as Maryland’s Opinions of the Attorney General, a public-domain number such as “2025 OK AG 3,” or the office’s own opinion number with its full date.

The book’s Table A gives each state’s form, from “Op. No.” opinions in Hawai‘i to file-numbered opinions in Illinois.

Each citation is printed as the book prints it, from an authority the book checked against its source.
