Filing verification log

A dated record of every citation check run on a brief, motion or proposed order, arranged by the four checks: identity, location, support and status. Hand it to the person who signs without handing over your brief: we never store your document, only the citations, the results and a fingerprint of the file.

Free trial: 3 logs or checks a day, up to 4,000 characters each, with the first 5 case citations looked up. Share links are part of the yearly toolset, which opens after the Kindle launch period.

Questions

What is a filing verification log?
A dated record of the citation checks run on one document, such as a brief, a motion or a proposed order. Each citation is listed with four results, one for each check in Chapter 1 of The Citation Code: identity (is it the authority you think it is?), location (does the cite lead to the passage?), support (does the passage say what the document says?) and status (is it still good law?). Red and amber items come first.
Is my document stored?
No. The document is checked in memory and never stored. A saved log keeps each citation's core (the case name, address and pinpoint), the results and a fingerprint of the file: a SHA-256 hash that identifies the exact text without containing any of it. Quoted words, opinion text, AI explanations and explanatory parentheticals are left out.
How does the person who signs confirm they have the same file?
Open the log's link and compare the file there. The browser computes the file's fingerprint and compares it with the log's. Nothing is uploaded, so it works offline. One changed character gives a different fingerprint.
Can I check a brief I received, or a proposed order?
Yes. Choose “A filing I received” and the log records that the citations checked are the other side's, or those in an order you were asked to approve. Courts have faulted lawyers who left fabricated citations in an opponent's brief unflagged.
Is the log a certificate?
No. It is a record of automated checks run on the date shown. It does not replace reading each authority, and it does not check whether a case is still good law: it is not a citator.
What does it cost?
It is included in the yearly toolset, with no per-filing fees. Each log counts as one document in the checker's allowance (50 a month). On the free trial you can run, print and download a log; share links are part of the toolset.

How the text is handled: it is read in memory for the checks and is not stored. Case citations, and for subscribers the quoted words, are checked against published court records through a third-party legal research data service; for a subscriber's support review, the sentence and the opinion passage go to Google Cloud's AI service. One document? The document checker shows every finding in full.
