Order here as often as you need to. The session invitation goes to the email address on the account that places the order. The person who signs joins the session from that invitation, completes the identity check and signs personally during the call. If someone else will sign, such as a law firm's client, they place the order from their own account.
What to have ready
Have a valid photo ID, an unsigned PDF, and a device with a working camera, microphone, and reliable internet connection.
Every signer completes a secure identity check during the session. Its requirements apply to each signer, and you confirm them before you pay. The secure identity check includes personal-history questions. Each signer needs a valid U.S. address and a Social Security number valid for at least two years.
- Do not sign your document before the notary session. Sign it only during the video call, in front of the notary.
- Complete the identity check in the secure session. Do not send your ID or Social Security number to The Citation Code support.
How it works
Check your document
Make sure it is complete and unsigned, and that the recipient accepts online notarization. Ask which notarial certificate it needs.
Upload and authorize
Sign in, upload the unsigned PDF, and authorize a card hold of $50 on the secure checkout page. Nothing is charged yet.
Join your session
We email you the invitation. The session opens on our notary partner's secure site, where every signer completes the identity check.
Sign and download
Sign during the video call, in front of the notary. Your card is charged once the notarized PDF is ready; download it from your order.
What a notary does, and does not do
- A notary confirms who signed the document, not that what it says is true.
- Notarization does not guarantee that anyone will accept the document or any particular outcome.
- The recipient and notary determine whether your document is suitable for online notarization. Confirm the required certificate and any witness requirements first.
- The Citation Code does not choose legal wording for your document, and nothing on this site is legal advice.

Is notarization part of a plan?
No. Each notarization is a separate, one-time order of $50. It is not included in the Student, Pro or Firm plans, you do not need a plan to order one, and nothing renews.
What does the $50 cover?
One notarization with one signer and one seal: a $25.00 notary session fee and $25.00 Citation Code handling.
When is my card charged?
When you order, your card is authorized for $50, a hold rather than a charge. Your card is charged only after the notarized document is ready. If you cancel before the session starts, or the session is cancelled, expires or does not finish, the hold on your card is released and nothing is charged. Your bank controls how quickly the hold disappears from your statement.
What does the identity check require?
Every signer completes a secure identity check during the session. Its requirements apply to each signer, and you confirm them before you pay. The secure identity check includes personal-history questions. Each signer needs a valid U.S. address and a Social Security number valid for at least two years.
What do I upload?
The complete, unsigned document as a PDF, up to 6 MB and not password-protected. It goes to the notary session unchanged. Do not sign it before the session.

Yes. Each order covers one notarization with one signer and one seal. Come back and order another whenever you need one.

What happens after I order?
Checkout returns you to your order's page. Once the hold on your card is confirmed, usually within a minute, we set up the video session and email you the invitation. The order page shows the link to join, each step after it, and the notarized PDF to download when it is ready.
Can I cancel?
Yes, from your order's page, until the video session starts: the session is cancelled and the hold released, so nothing is charged. Once the session has started, it can no longer be cancelled there.
Do I need an account?
Yes. The session invitation goes to the email address on your account, and your orders are listed on this page whenever you are signed in. Signing in is free: we email you a link, and there is no password.
Is tax added to the price?
The price is in U.S. dollars. No sales tax is added at checkout.
