Enter a case citation to see the opinion it points to on CourtListener and how The Citation Code writes the citation in a brief or memo, with each element labelled and linked to the section that teaches it.

Free trial: 5 lookups a day. To check every citation in a document, use the citation checker.

Volume, reporter and first page, with the case name if you have it: 347 U.S. 483, or Brown v. Bd. of Educ., 347 U.S. 483 (1954).

Your text and our sources

The citation you enter goes to CourtListener to be found and is not stored with anything about you. We keep only a count of lookups and a cache of the case citations looked up, such as 347 U.S. 483.

Case data comes from CourtListener (opens in a new tab), a service of Free Law Project (opens in a new tab). Reporter abbreviations come from Free Law Project's reporters-db, and citations are read with eyecite-ts.
