What the data establishes
The September 30, 2026 CourtListener citation snapshot contains references to 7,850,758 cluster IDs and 989 distinct reporter strings. These are metadata counts. They are not counts of opinions read, verified holdings, or currently binding authorities.
The case sample contains 400 records across 24 courts: 200 highly cited Supreme Court results, 100 recent federal appellate results, and 100 recent results from selected state high courts, retrieved October 8, 2026. It is a purposeful research sample. One opinion was additionally retrieved in full through MCP.
GPO XML covers eCFR titles 1, 5, 28, 37, and 44, plus annual CFR title 1 from 2024. Counts include reserved sections and overlap between versions. Court metadata includes historical and inactive entries. These collections support editorial research; they are not the website’s live citation checker.

Editorial status
The original reference is a research draft. Source retrieval, metadata matching, and file integrity checks do not establish substantive legal accuracy. Independent attorney review, broader jurisdiction-specific review, and reader testing remain before a reviewed publication release. CourtListener and the issuing institutions are credited for their source material.
